Sarnia is looking at replacing part of its 55-year-old No. 5 fire station in the city’s northeast.
The estimated $2.8 million project, including costs for temporary staff housing and equipment relocation, would about double the existing living space and leave the apparatus bay for vehicle storage untouched, said fire chief Jeff Weber.
The 1980-built station near Telfer and Blackwell roads was designed for a volunteer crew in the Town of Clearwater, before amalgamation with Sarnia in 1991, Weber has said.
It was repurposed for one firefighter, but currently houses four. using one washroom, one shower, an inadequate septic system, and one change room.
