Officials say a police investigation in Dover that closed a road near and elementary school — causing bus service for some students being suspended — stemmed from a report of a “despondent” male with a pistol in the area.
At 12:52 p.m. Thursday, Somersworth police responded to the area of the AT&T Mobility store at 497 High St. for a report of a despondent male armed with a pistol, identified as James Corbett, 48, of Rochester.
Police reported that when they arrived at the scene, the man fled into the woods behind the store toward the Dover line.
“It was later reported that Corbett had allegedly pointed the firearm at passing vehicles on High Street while yelling obscenities,” Somersworth police said in a statement.
