A football team which unexpectedly cancelled a match has revealed the heart-breaking reason for the decision.

Earlier this month Yate Town FC posted a message via Twitter /X which revealed that the game between the team and Poole Town had been cancelled.

At the time (Saturday, November 8), the club announced that the game had been postponed "due to sudden and unexpected news early this morning". It added that following "consultation and co-operation of both the Southern League and Poole Town, it has been decided to call off today’s Southern League fixture."

The club asked for privacy on the matter and said a further announcement would be made in due course.
