A Louisiana softball legend made history as the first woman to sign with the new Women’s Pro Baseball League this week. Amanda Gianelloni , a 2024 Nicholls State Hall of Fame inductee, was drafted to San Francisco in the league’s inaugural selection event.

In addition to starring at Nicholls State from 2016-19, Gianelloni has also been a part of the Team USA women’s baseball national team since 2016. She attended high school at Assumption, where she was also a multi-sport athlete and standout girls’ basketball player.

The only Louisiana native selected in the draft, Gianelloni watched the event surrounded by loved ones on Thursday night.
