GARLAND, Texas — Making their first appearance in a state championship match, the Clifton Lady Cubs’ historic postseason run came to an end Saturday with a 3-0 loss to Boyd in the UIL Class 3A volleyball final at the Curtis Culwell Center.
Clifton, which had never reached a state title match before this season, battled through a tight opening set that featured long rallies and frequent ties. Boyd edged out a 25-23 win before taking the second set 25-21. The Yellowjackets then pulled away in the third, completing the sweep with a 25-10 victory.
Across the first two sets, the teams were tied a combined 20 times as Clifton kept pace early before Boyd’s offense took control late.
Senior Addison Martin said the Lady Cubs were proud of what they accomplished in their historic run.
