Ryan Carlson said that watching his dad as a general contractor always try to understand the financing side of real estate inspired him to pursue a career in finance. So, after high school, Carlson completed his undergraduate degree in business with a dual concentration in finance and entrepreneurship at Northeastern University before earning a graduate degree in real estate from New York University.

Upon graduation, Carlson secured an investor relations analyst role at Aladdin Capital Management before moving to Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Company as well as Cushman & Wakefield where he served for six years in different positions.
