A grand opening was held on Friday morning for DIY Community Health, a low-barrier drop-in and warm-up centre accessible for all community members in Timmins.
Located at 114 Algonquin Blvd., near Birch Street, it has been opened since July, and provides various services and amenities including peer support, health services, a community fridge and kitchen, laundry facilities, showers, and comfortable seating in a warm and safe environment.

Jason Sereda, founder and board president, spoke to The Daily Press after the morning’s formalities about the inspiration behind DIY Community Health.
“The organization started back in 2022, and at that point it really just started with a few volunteers, going out at night, handing out stuff, doing that outreach work,” he said.
