Despite a disappointing first season with the team, the Kansas City Royals and Jonathan India have avoided arbitration.

The second baseman has agreed to a one-year deal through 2026, the Royals announced on Friday.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, India’s new contract is for $8 million.

India, a non-tender candidate, slashed a disappointing .233/.323/.346 over 136 games in his first year in Kansas City. He spent his first four years in MLB playing for the Cincinnati Reds, where he won the National League Rookie of the Year award in 2021.

The 29-year-old bounced around between second base, third base and left field for the Royals last season, and is expected to do the same thing for them again in 2026.
