Iowa farmers who sold grain before Nov. 17 to Hansen-Mueller Co., an Omaha business that has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, may file a claim with the state indemnity fund to recoup some of their eligible losses, the Iowa Department of Agriculture says.

The state said Friday, Nov. 21, that Hansen-Mueller, a licensed Iowa grain dealer with grain facilities in Council Bluffs and Sioux City, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Nov. 17. Iowa farmers facing losses in the bankruptcy must file their claims in writing with Hansen-Muller and the state Grain Indemnity Fund within 120 days — or by March 17, the state agency said.

The state said at this time, it's "unaware of any Iowa producers who are unpaid."
