The legendary entertainer has been selected to receive the 51st AFI Lifetime Achievement Award, an honor presented each year to an individual whose work has made a lasting impact on the cinematic arts. The award ceremony is scheduled for April.
Murphy first rose to fame on “Saturday Night Live” in 1980 before becoming one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. His early career included standout roles in classics such as “48 Hours,” “Trading Places,” and the “Beverly Hills Cop” franchise. He also became a beloved voice actor, lending his talents to animated hits like “Shrek” and “Mulan.”
