For a moment, it appeared the Fremont volleyball team might have another magical five-set thriller left in the tank.
Unfortunately for the Packers, a disciplined Flat Rock squad had other plans.
Fremont trailed 24-18 late in the fourth set of the Division 2 state semifinals on Friday afternoon at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek. The Packers responded with their season on the line, going on a quick 4-0 run to bring the score to 24-22 with momentum shifting swiftly in their favor.
Flat Rock managed to survive the late comeback attempt, however, as they scored the next point to secure a 25-22 set win and close out the match by scores of 25-20, 26-24, 23-25, 25-22.
No. 10 Flat Rock (39-8) advances to face top-ranked Detroit Country Day (28-9) in the Division 2 state championship game on Satu
