FEDERAL WAY — With 15 shutouts on the season, Hockinson’s defense and goalkeeper Audrey Armstrong were key catalysts in the Hawks’ run to the Class 2A girls soccer state final four.

The Hawks kept a vaunted West Valley attack out of net for 70 minutes of Friday’s state semifinal match. But as the Eagles of Spokane continued to stack scoring chances together during a possession-heavy second half, their efforts were finally rewarded.

Chloe Van Wey scored a go-ahead goal in the 71st minute on an assist from Kailey Willis and the No. 2 seed Eagles held on for a 1-0 win to reach Saturday’s state championship match at Federal Way Memorial Stadium. No. 6 Hockinson, making its first 2A state final four appearance since 2021, will play in Saturday’s third-place game at 10 a.m.
