LAUREL, Mont. – A prescribed fire near Chief Buffalo Horn Trail in Laurel caught the attention of locals due to its visibility.

Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles around the area. Video captured from a hotel room showed the extensive smoke cloud rising above the landscape.

We reached out to both the Billings Fire Department and Laurel Dispatch to understand the situation. They confirmed that there was a burn permit in place and assured the public that this prescribed fire is nothing to worry about.

The fire took place around 3:30 p.m. and was a planned event. Local authorities are monitoring the situation to ensure everything remains under control.
