Former Nepal prime minister K P Sharma Oli Friday announced the formation of a new unit under his party to provide security to the country’s people, media and professionals.
The National Volunteer Service was formed in view of the government’s failure in ensuring security in the country, the former prime minister said.
The Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) move comes little more than two months after Oli’s resignation following youth protests in September.
The move also comes after two days of clashes in southern Nepal between CPM-UML cadres and youth protesters.
Following the CPN-UML rally in Kathmandu, youth groups and party cadres once again came face to face, with the Gen Z groups holding a protest at a site nearby.
