ROCKFORD, Ill. — A street in downtown Rockford is back open after the first part of construction was done.
The City of Rockford Government announced that Madison Street in Rockford is now fully back open to traffic from E. State Street to Prairie Street, after Phase One of construction was completed.
The $4.5 million project was said to include a complete road rebuild, water main and lead service line replacements, traffic calming, streetscape furnishings, and accommodations for bikes.
Madison Street Phase Two will continue in the spring of 2026. It was said to extend the project north from Prairie Street to Y Boulevard, with the same improvements introduced in Phase One.
