JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Wagging tails, pointy noses and short legs. Black Friday came a week early at Animal Care and Protective Services in Riverside.
Dozens camped overnight to rescue one of 19 dachshunds up for a free adoption.
"Oh my goodness," said Alyssa Hickman as she hugged her new dachshund, Winnie, for the first time. "Hi. So sweet."
Thirteen hours in a lawn chair - all to finally reach this moment.
"I actually rescued one a year ago today and she really needs - she's better with other dogs," said Hickman. "We saw the opportunity to rescue another one and we figured, 'Why not try?'"
It's Clear the Cages November , so Winnie was free for Hickman to take home after a $20 licensing fee.
Even after spending all that time in line, Hickman and her dad were still feeling generous.
