Australia’s nightmare with the bat on Day 1 of the Ashes opener in Perth has seen fans and commentators again question the age of the team.
After knocking over England for 172 on the back of a herculean performance from Mitch Starc, Australia was reeling on 9-123 by stumps.
Opener Jake Weatherald made a duck on debut, Usman Khawaja made two, Steve Smith was out for 17, and Marnus Labuschagne fell for nine.
Weatherald is 31, Khawaja will be 39 in December, Smith is 36, and Labuschagne is 31.
In fact, the only player in the team who is under 30 is allrounder Cam Green who did show some some resistance with the bat and squeezed out 24 runs from 50 balls.
