COLUMBUS, Ohio — The newest recruit at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is getting lots of attention.
“So, this is Legend,” said Sgt. Darrah Metz, who commands the FCSO Crisis K-9 Unit. “Legend is 8 weeks old, and he’s one of the new crisis K-9s for the sheriff’s office.”
Legend and his brother Koda have joined six other four-legged members of the crisis K-9 law enforcement team, expanding the reach of their impact. They assist victims who’ve experienced mental, physical or psychological trauma.
“We are a voice for the voiceless, and we give hope where needed,” Metz said.
It’s a legacy started by one very special pup who is still making an impact, even after his end of watch.
Mattis K. Nine, the first ever crisis K-9 officer in the state of Ohio, was the first K-9 partner for Metz
