Large parts of Queensland are expected to swelter under extreme and severe heatwave conditions, with temperatures set to soar across much of the state in the week ahead.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) said extreme heatwaves would affect areas from the Cairns Hinterland through Central Western Queensland and into the state's north-west.
Forecaster Felim Hanniffy said Saturday’s heat would be most intense across western and interior parts of the state.
"This is driven by daytime maximums of well into the 40s, in fact hitting the high 40s in parts of the south-west of the state, by Sunday," he said.
" Overnight minimums [are] holding up in the high 20s, maybe even the low 30s in parts of the far west. "
