SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) - Drought conditions are impacting wildlife and people who use area waterways.

The Suwannee Riverkeeper is reporting significantly lower water levels along the upper portion of the Suwannee River and along the Withlacooche in Georgia.

Without significant rain, fish could get stuck in some pools along the river.

As far as people who use the river, they are also facing challenges.

“There’s no way you would put a power boat in there, even if you dragged one down there, the prop would be on the bottom, so it is way low,” John Quarterman with Suwannee Riverkeeper said.

The Suwannee River Water Management District is monitoring groundwater levels, but so far, the district reports numbers are far from record lows.
