As the holiday shopping season gets into full swing, small businesses in Northern Kentucky are handling economic uncertainties, cutting into their bottom lines.

Stores like SoHza Sister Boutique rely on holiday foot traffic to bring in revenue. The Covington-based store sells products from around the world, donating a portion of proceeds to local nonprofits. Advertisement

Co-owner Debbie Lupariello said factors such as inflation, tariffs, and rising shipping costs tear into revenue.

"You can expect $100 or $150 fees from shipping companies; that's not predictable," Lupariello said.

A few blocks away, F & Goode Desserts Bakery's owner Stephanie Hockett said chocolate price surges have had an impact.
