HOWELL, Mich. (WILX) - The VetLife organization held its annual “Harvest for Heroes” event in Howell on Friday, giving back to those who served.

The organization provided free Thanksgiving turkey baskets for veteran families.

VetLife says it’s all about addressing food insecurity among our local veterans.

“We’ve had a number of veterans who have come through who said they would not be able to celebrate Thanksgiving. They would not be able to have a meal like this with their family if it wasn’t for this event. So we’re thankful to be able to give back to those who has sacrificed more than most of us could ever imagine,” said Matthew Leach, VetLife Partnership Coordinator.

VetLife’s goal this year was to give away more than 500 Thanksgiving dinners to veterans in need.
