GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - The Florida Forest Service has announced four county-issued burn bans for our region.

Alachua, Gilchrist, Citrus and Union County residents should refrain from lighting fires due to drought conditions dominating our forecast.

With the holiday coming up, some enjoy bonfires or deep-frying turkeys outdoors, but this can be more dangerous than usual.

There was a wildfire today in Keystone Heights, one yesterday in Alachua County and one last Sunday in High Springs.

It’s been a dry season for us without much rain in the past few months. That, coupled with above-average temperatures in the 80s, makes for fire-friendly conditions.
