WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Forsyth County Commissioners on Thursday approved forgiving $3.4 million of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools’ debt, matching private donations raised to cover funds owed to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Additional private donations will go toward reducing the district’s remaining $6.1 million debt to ESS, a substitute contractor. Of that $6.1 million, $2.2 million is expected to be covered by pledged donations to the WS/FCS Futures Fund, which will also be matched toward full forgiveness of the district’s county debt.
In staffing news, Interim Superintendent Catty Q. Moore approved opening 40 previously frozen school-based positions following the adoption of the district’s final fiscal year budget. Chief of Schools Dr. Timisha Barnes-Jon
