JEFF DAVIS, CAMERON PARISHES, La. (KPLC) - For five years, Jeff Davis Electric Co-op has provided electricity to customers off of generated power due to the previous power grid being damaged by Hurricanes Laura and Delta.

Nov. 19 was the first day since the hurricanes that Jeff Davis Electric customers had a permanent power source.

“Wednesday, we were able to heat up from Johnson Bayou back to the ferry going east and that was the final leg of the membership that was left on generated power,” said Ben Hetzel, Director of Safety for Jeff Davis Electric.

The previous power grid was supported by wooden poles that were blown down by the 2020 storms, leaving residents of Jeff Davis and Cameron Parishes without power for weeks.
