Marjorie Taylor Greene

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene says she will leave Congress early next year following a recent public clash with President Donald Trump.

The Georgia rep, 51, a former Trump loyalist-turned critic, announced in a 10-minute video and a four-page letter posted on X Friday, Nov. 21, that she will resign her House seat, with her last day in office set for Jan. 5, 2026. Her statement detailed frustration with national politics, deep divisions inside her own party, and a growing sense that Congress “should not be a lifelong career or an assisted living facility,” she wrote.

The announcement comes after a dramatic falling-out with Trump, who recently attacked her publicly after she supported a measure seeking the release of federal investigative files tied to Jeffrey Epstein.

In her letter, Greene strongly criticized “paid political propaganda,” “lawfare,” and what she described as nonstop personal attacks. She wrote that many people could not withstand “even for a day” the level of pressure she faced.

In closing, Greene said:

"When the common American people finally realize and understand that the Political Industrial Complex of both parties is ripping this country apart, that not one elected leader like me is able to stop Washington’s machine from gradually destroying our country, and instead the reality is that they, common Americans, The People, possess the real power over Washington, then I’ll be here by their side to rebuild it.

"Until then I’m going back to the people I love, to live life to the fullest as I always have, and look forward to a new path ahead."
