A new Government Resolution (GR) issued by Maharashtra Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar has sparked debate after it formally directs all state government employees to stand up when Members of Parliament (MPs) or MLAs enter their offices and maintain dignified and courteous conduct in all interactions.

The resolution, released on Thursday, consolidates directives issued between 27 July 2015 and 20 August 2021. It sets updated protocols for officials when dealing with elected representatives, stressing attentive listening, polite communication — including over phone calls — and prompt action on issues raised by legislators.

KEY DIRECTIVES IN THE RESOLUTION INCLUDE:

- Officers and employees must rise from their seats when an MLA or MP enters or exits the room.
