Officials with the Neighborhood Food Network operated by Associated Churches of Fort Wayne and Allen County are facing some tough decisions as the holidays approach.
“We’ve been able to survive this year because we’ve done some additional food drives which have enabled us to keep up with the need,” said Garry Pook, director of finance for the organization. “But if things continue as they are now, we may have to look at (using emergency funds) before the end of the year.”
The Neighborhood Food Network is a collection of 21 food pantries across Fort Wayne and Allen County. Like thousands of other food banks nationwide, the network has experienced year-over-year increases in need since the COVID-19 pandemic, Pook said.
