The Cubs agreed with right-handed reliever Phil Maton on a two-year contract with a club option for a third year on Friday, a source told MLB.com's Jordan Bastian. The club has not confirmed the deal.

Rather quietly, Maton has become one of the game’s steadiest relievers. He’s made at least 60 appearances in each of the past five seasons, pitching for six teams in that span. Since 2021, only four relievers – Tyler Rogers, Emmanuel Clase, Scott Barlow, and Tanner Scott – have made more appearances than Maton’s 334.
