A shooting near the Chicago Theater in the city's Loop neighborhood Friday evening prompted a heavy police response in the area.

Around 10:20 p.m. Friday, Chicago police said they were responding to a shooting near State and Lake Streets, authorities said.

Several ambulances and a heavy police response could be seen in the area, with police tape wrapped across State Street and over a dozen police vehicles parked near the Chicago Theater and Joffrey Ballet.

The shooting occurred just blocks from where the city's official tree lighting ceremony took place Friday evening and from the Daley Plaza Christkindlmarket.

No additional information was immediately available.
