An upper air cyclonic circulation over central parts of Strait of Malacca has persisted over the same region from yesterday (Friday) evening to this (Saturday) morning. It will move west and spin up further as a low-pressure area downstream over adjoining Indian territorial waters over South Andaman Sea anytime from now.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) is watching its evolution first as a low-pressure area, onward movement west-northwest into south-east Bay of Bengal, and intensification twice over as a depression by Monday.

The system is endowed with enough kinetic energy to continue to move in a west-northwest direction into south-west Bay (backyard of Sri Lanka and south Tamil Nadu coasts, and intensify further by Wednesday.
