Did you know that the Moon’s mother made sacrifices to give birth to it? Around 4.5 billion years ago, a Mars-sized planetary body named Theia collided with proto-Earth (early Earth) to form the Blue Planet’s natural satellite.

As a result of the collision, known as the Giant Impact Hypothesis, Theia was shredded into pieces, and the size, composition, and orbit of proto-Earth were changed. Even though Theia was completely destroyed, its traces became a part of the Earth and the Moon.

However, several questions about Theia, such as its size, composition, and origin, remain unanswered.

To learn about Theia’s history of formation and ingredients, researchers from the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Germany and the University of Chicago analysed the isotopic fingerprints
