The town of Collbran has been in turmoil for the last year as it has seen multiple staff, contracted employees and its town attorney resign citing poor relations with the Board of Trustees. In April of 2024, the Board of Trustees saw three new members elected — Mayor Kendall Wilcox, Trustee Jessica Price and Trustee Gary Winkleblack. They joined Trustees Tilda Evans and Lorraine Zentz.

Over the next few months, the board dealt with some contentious issues, including whether to contract out for the town’s police service with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office rather than hire its own town marshal, as well as issues regarding its renovation of the town auditorium and other grant funded projects like its water line project with School District 50.
