Blackpool Week is a highlight of BBC's Strictly Come Dancing yearly show. Known as the 'spiritual home' of ballroom dancing in Britain, Blackpool's Tower Ballroom has been a mainstay in the seaside town for over 130 years.
With the exception of 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, Strictly has hosted its annual Blackpool special in November for more than a decade. Before contestants can even dream about hoisting the Glitterball trophy, their primary goal is to at least make it to Blackpool Week without being ousted from the competition.
So, what makes it so extraordinary that the contestants get to perform at Blackpool's Tower Ballroom? Well, it's all down to the venue's long and prestigious dance history.
