BEDFORD, Ohio — Walsh Jesuit broke through against its nemesis Friday night, defeating Archbishop Hoban 35-7 in the Division II, Region 5 final at Bedford High School Bearcat Stadium.
The Warriors advance to the state semifinals for the first time since winning the state title in 1999, their sixth semifinal appearance overall. Walsh will face Avon (12-1) next Friday at a site to be determined by the OHSAA.
The victory ended a painful pattern for Walsh, which had lost regional finals to Hoban in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Marty Tobin powered the Warriors’ ground game with 22 carries for 199 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback David Ternosky, returning from an injury that kept him out last week, completed 6 of 9 passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns.
