Republican congresswoman and Maga icon Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced she will resign from her seat, days after Donald Trump called her a “traitor”.
Greene, 51, said that her final day in congress will be 5 January, ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
The decision comes after months of escalating tension between Greene and Trump, who were once firm allies.
MTG, as she is referred to by her supporters, had become increasingly critical of Trump after he refused to release all files held by the justice department related to the convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Seemingly bowing to pressure, Trump signed a bill for the files to be released.
In response, Trump has described Greene as a “ranting lunatic” and said he would support a primary challenge against her.
