Congress MP Shashi Tharoor praised the meeting between US President Donald Trump and New York’s new mayor, Zohran Mamdani, at the White House. He said that despite sharp attacks on each other during elections, the democratic spirit was maintained.

Sharing a video of the two US leaders, Tharoor wrote on X: “During elections, all parties should contest with enthusiasm for their own ideology, without any restraint. But once the elections are over, learn to cooperate with each other for the country’s interest. I wish to see the same in India.”

The BJP has appreciated Tharoor’s statement. BJP spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla said that through his post, Tharoor reminded his party leaders to put the country first instead of the Gandhi family.
