A Sri Lankan man, Sujanth Ketheeswararasa, has been arrested in Liverpool in connection with the alleged rape of a child in France. The 30-year-old was detained by officers from the National Crime Agency's (NCA) extradition unit on Wednesday, 19 November. Ketheeswararasa is wanted by French authorities for the alleged sexual assault of a young girl. Clare Meehan, from the NCA's Joint International Crime Centre, stated, "There is no greater priority for the NCA than protecting children from sexual abuse. Working with partners at home and abroad, we traced and located the suspect and executed his arrest." Following his arrest, Ketheeswararasa appeared in a London court on Thursday, 20 November, where he was remanded in custody as extradition proceedings commenced. He is scheduled to appear via video link at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 27 November. A full extradition hearing has been set for 26 March next year. The NCA continues to work closely with international partners to ensure that individuals wanted for serious crimes are brought to justice. Ketheeswararasa's case highlights the ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable children from sexual exploitation.
