Trailing by six votes, Hamtramck mayoral candidate Muhith Mahmood has requested a recount by Wayne County.

Mahmood, currently a city councilman, filed a petition on Wednesday, Nov. 19, with the Wayne County Clerks' Office, the day after the Wayne County Board of Canvassers certified he narrowly lost the race to Adam Alharbi . The unofficial results two weeks prior had Mahmood trailing by 11 votes, but after the counting of some other ballots, he was down by only six votes.
