A bold new proposal aims to create Britain's first purpose-built city in over half a century. Designed to tackle the current housing crisis in the UK, the city plans to house one million residents in affordable, high-quality homes located to the East of Cambridge.

The proposed city, Forest 1, would be built on a 45,000-acre greenfield site, with 12,000 acres reserved for a new forest. Its footprint would be roughly the same size as Bristol, and it would accommodate around 400,000 homes.

The plans have not yet been formalised, though 767 have signed an online petition pledging support for the proposal.
