A Middlesbrough man has received a suspended prison sentence for carrying two knives in public without a lawful reason.

Christopher Bell, 39, of Sedgebrook Gardens, Middlesbrough, appeared at Teesside Magistrates' Court on November 18.

He admitted possessing a folding pocket knife with a blade longer than three inches and a Stanley knife on Guisborough Road, Nunthorpe, on October 2.

The court said the offences were so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified.

Bell was given a seven-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.

He must also complete 60 hours of unpaid work within 12 months and take part in 35 days of rehabilitation activities as directed by his supervising officer.

Bell was ordered to forfeit both knives.
