A woman in Bihar's Muzaffarpur has accused her partner of exploiting her for five years under the promise of marriage, alleging sexual abuse, assault and theft of gold jewellery worth nearly Rs 1.75 lakh.

The complaint has set off a police investigation and drawn fresh attention to rising cases of exploitation through social media contacts.

The complainant, Sonam Kumari, said she met the accused, Raju Sahni alias Radhe, on Facebook around four to five years ago.

What began as routine conversations soon developed into a relationship, after which the accused allegedly pressed her to live with him “as husband and wife” at a rented room on Balughat Road No 1.
