New Delhi: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has suggested a major update to the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP). This new version, called Bharat NCAP 2.0, will widen the way cars are tested and rated for safety in India. The draft for AIS-197 Revision 1 was released on Friday.
In the new system, a car’s star rating will depend on how it performs in five areas, including crash protection, safety for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users, safe-driving features, accident-avoidance systems and safety after a crash. This is different from the current method that mainly looks at adult safety, child safety and a few safety assist features.
More crash tests added
Bharat NCAP 2.0 will increase the number of compulsory crash tests from three to five. T
