HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - During National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, local businesses and organizations in Holyoke are focusing on food insecurity, a pressing issue for many residents in western Massachusetts.
Extreme weather events drive up food prices, study shows
Residents in Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden, and Berkshire counties are facing difficult choices between paying bills and putting food on the table, especially with Thanksgiving approaching, which increases pressure on local food banks.
"We dip in, as we are now into our own private funding sources. Food is expensive and it's expensive for us as well, but we know we need to get food ultimately into the hands and mouths of people who need it," said Andrew Morehouse, Executive Director of The Food Bank of Western Mass
