MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — A crash involving multiple vehicles is causing a traffic backup for some drivers attempting to reach a busy East Valley freeway early Saturday morning.
The collision was reported shortly after 5:30 a.m. on the westbound lanes of the Loop 202 South Mountain near Hawes Road . Authorities say three vehicles were involved, but it’s unclear how many people were injured.
The SR 24 on-ramp to the Loop 202 is shut down as the crash investigation continues. Drivers are asked to slow down to get around the closure.
Arizona Department of Transportation officials say drivers are getting by on the shoulder, but there is no estimated time to reopen the on-ramp.
Traffic cameras showed a heavy backup as crews were moving the vehicles to the freeway shoulder.
