WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Local law enforcement thwarted an attempted swatting attack on a state lawmaker and their family on Wednesday morning. At around 8 a.m., dispatch received a false report of domestic abuse at Sen. Spencer Deery's address, with threats of violence against responding officers.
The West Lafayette Police Department recognized the incident as a swatting attempt and responded safely, ensuring the safety of the family and neighborhood children preparing for school.
"It is disturbing that anyone would attempt to harm or intimidate lawmakers," Deery said. He expressed gratitude for the police's professionalism and reiterated their commitment to public service despite such threats.
