Marcy Park in Minneapolis will now be called Dinky Park.

Community members created and voted on the new name. They said “Dinky,” a common name for the neighborhood, fit the small size of the 1.7-acre park.

The Marcy-Holmes Neighborhood Association proposed the name change in 2024 because of confusion with neighboring Marcy School and Holmes Park. They also did not want the park’s previous namesake, William Marcy, to be honored because of his advocacy for slavery expansion in the United States in the mid-1800s.

The association received over 100 submissions for new names and said the renaming process led to increased engagement in the neighborhood.
