The UK faced its first cold snap of the season this week after Arctic air swept across the nation and sent temperatures plunging.

The Met Office issued a number of severe weather warnings, including an amber snow warning in parts of northeast England and Scotland. Conditions brought travel disruption and school closures, with some homes left without power.

Temperatures dropped as low as -12.6C in Tomintoul Scotland, the Met Office confirmed, making it the coldest November night since 2010.

But after days of freezing conditions, forecasters say the weather will shift throughout the weekend, with "strong and gusty winds" set to take over for some.
