A 75-year-old man was seriously injured Friday night after suffering burns in a Kaimuki house fire, authorities said.

At 9:38 p.m., the Honolulu Fire Department received a 911 call for a building fire in the 1100 block of 2nd Avenue, sending 10 units with 38 firefighters, HFD officials said in a news release. The first unit arrived at 9:44 p.m. to find the house engulfed in flames.

HFD said the home’s only occupant exited on his own and confirmed that no one else was inside.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services paramedics treated the man, who had burn injuries, and took him in serious condition to a hospital.

Firefighters brought the fire under control at 10:05 p.m. and it was extinguished at 10:12 p.m., HFD said.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the displaced man.
