Stone Roses bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield - who has died at the age of 63 - was a proud Manc who loved his city.

From the streets of Crumpsall, where he was born, to Xaverian College in Rusholme , Manchester and its music shaped his career and his life.

Mounfield - and his ever-present huge smile - was a regular in the city, supporting events in the Northern Quarter and Djing at clubs and bars across the city.

He was also an passionate supporter of charities, raising money for cancer care and The Christie in Manchester after the death of his wife, Imelda.

Mounfield was born in 1962 into a family with Irish heritage - his father was a respected chef who honed his son's love of music and Manchester United.
